Clear Eyes

Dear Brave Butterfly,

Hi friend!

Is anyone else feeling the weight of stress bearing down on you?  If you're like me, you've felt the frantic pace of the world we live in.  Some days I feel it drowning out my joy and peace.  Some days I find myself more focused on my to-do list that what is really important.  This poem was birthed out of one of those days.  God's reminder to see what is really important - to have clear eyes.

Clear Eyes
Stress is all around us
It bombards at every turn
Do we worry, fear, or become anxious?
Do we let it churn?

It worsens as we take on more
Over programming our days
Slow lines, traffic, unexpected delays
Take our joy and peace away

We hurry, hurry, hurry
Racing all around
Many, many things to do
Nothing can slow us down

We hustle through the room
Not noticing the pain
A woman standing by herself
Who has lost her way

Her face is filled with sadness
A broken heart inside
But stress makes us rush by her
The frantic pace our guide

Something causes us to pause
And suddenly we see
This person as God sees her
A precious human being

We take the time to listen
To her troubles and her grief
Our simple listening ear
Provides enormous relief

We make sure to remind her
She is special and she's loved
There is nothing that can separate her
From Jesus' great love

This moment a divine appointment
Changing someone forever
A simple moment almost missed
By what you won't remember

So take the time to slow down
Cast anxiousness aside
And you will see what really matters
You'll see with clear eyes
